Left-wing Actor Jon Stewart Says Playing the National Anthem Before Sports Events is ‘Weird’

Actor and comedian Jon Stewart has revealed his total ignorance of American history.

The liberal elitist, who regularly attempts to lecture Americans on political and cultural issues, doesn’t know the history behind America’s National Anthem.

Stewart is confused about why the national anthem is played before sports events. He calls it a “weird ritual.”

Going a step further, Stewart even defends disgraced former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick who refused to stand for the National Anthem.

Stewart questions the American tradition of standing for the national anthem.

Speaking to billionaire and Dallas Maverick owners Marc Cuban, who recently ended the playing the National Anthem at home games, Stewart said, “Does anyone know when that started, playing the national anthem before games? It’s such a weird ritual.”

He continued, “I’ve always thought about when [Colin] Kaepernick took the knee and the whole thing was like, ‘You gotta stand for the anthem!’ Now I imagine like in living rooms, guys are getting nachos ready, and f***ing the wings, and the anthem comes on and they all just have to…” [Stewart suggests standing up].

“But like why is that?” he continued.

“When the anthem comes on, you only have to stand if you’re there. But the transitive principle through the television — if it’s through the television you can do whatever the fuck you want.”

“You can take a sh*t during the national anthem as a patriot. But if you’re at the stadium there’s like a whole regimen you have to go through.”

Before canceling the National Anthem, Cuban says he consulted with left-wing NBA commissioner Adam Silver and also allegedly spoke to members of the Dallas community who feel the tradition “did not fully represent them.”

This attack on American history and traditions is occurring in the name of so-called “social justice” and fueled by the American-hating posterchild Colin Kaepernick.

Those who feel the National Anthem “doesn’t represent them” clearly misunderstand the history of the American tradition.

Even after the American Revolution, America continued to fight the British forces to sustain its independence. Canadians and Native Americans also backed the British to deliver many costly defeats and deaths to Americans.

During the War of 1812, the British even captured and burned the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., in August 1814. Britain was on the verge of claiming victory over the entire war.

The last line of defense for Baltimore was Fort McHenry. Britain launched a naval attack and, for twenty-four hours, bombarded the fort with mortar shells and rockets. A massive cloud of smoke was illuminated by the glow of rockets. 1,200 British soldiers also attacked the fort from the rear.

Americans successfully defended Fort McHenry and raised a thirty by forty-two-foot United States Flag over the fort.

Witnessing these events and the sacrifices of Americans who were fighting for liberty, Georgetown lawyer Francis Scott Key initially wrote the poem “Defence of Fort M’Henry,” which was later combined with music and published as “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The song soon began accompanying U.S. flag raisings by the Navy. It was later adopted as a de facto “national anthem.” Americans began playing the song at any events that hold important significance for Americans.

After many years of functioning as a de facto “national anthem,” elected officials in Congress finally passed “House Resolution 14” in 1929 which codified “The Star-Spangled Banner” as the official National Anthem to the United States.

This is the brief history behind the origins of the National Anthem that liberals fail to understand.

In many Democrat-led cities across the nation, our public school systems are often failing to teach children the basic lessons of American history.

Instead of learning about American traditions that were forged through the immense sacrifice of previous generations, children are seemingly more likely to be influenced by liberals who promote the ugly and divisive teachings of “Critical Race Theory.”
