Fact Check Exposes Major Lie: Capitol Cop Claims Death of Officer Brian Sicknick Occurred Due to Injuries on Jan. 6

During the first day of the January 6 Commission Hearing, a Capitol Police officer made a blatantly untrue claim.

“I’d like to take a moment of my time,” officer Harry Dunn said as he began his testimony to the committee, “to ask for a moment of silence for my fallen colleague Officer Brian Sicknick, who died from injuries he sustained in the line of duty defending the Capitol of our beloved democracy.”

The moment was incredibly moving. However, the statement is false because Officer Sicknick did not die from injuries sustained in the line of duty while defending the Capitol.

The Washington Post reported in April that Officer Sicknick died of natural causes related to two strokes on Jan. 7.

The D.C. chief medical examiner confirmed this information to the Post. Sicknick’s autopsy showed no evidence of internal or external injuries sustained in the line of duty. Watch the clip:

Journalist Glenn Greenwald, who has long maintained that there was insufficient evidence to rule Sicknick’s death a homicide, criticized those who shared what he called a “media lie.”

“All the evidence was there from the start that the media lie (which emanated from NYT and then became unquestioned Truth: like the Russia Bounty story) was dubious,” he tweeted Monday. “But anyone who flagged these was accused of being a pro-insurrectionist fascist, so ‘journalists’ clung to the lie.”

A recent poll delivered bad news to Mitt Romney.

Romney received just 4% of voters who favor him as the current 2024 Republican presidential nominee. Assuming former President Donald Trump does not run, most voters favor Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the current 2024 Republican presidential nominee.

The poll was conducted by Echelon Insights. It fielded responses from 1,001 registered voters between June 18 to June 22. The poll asked Republican voters, “If Donald Trump does NOT seek the Republican nomination for President in 2024 and the presidential primaries were being held today, for whom would you vote?”
