‘Nancy Pelosi Will Announce She’s Stepping Down:’ The Atlantic Suggests Pelosi Will Resign ‘in the Not-So Distant Future’

It appears Pelosi is done.

A bombshell report in The Atlantic has everyone talking.

In the “not-so-distant future,” Pelosi will make this announcement. The Atlantic reported, “Sometime in the not-so-distant future, probably after next year’s midterm elections, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will announce that she’s stepping down.”

Who will be the next Democratic Speaker or House Minority Leader? It’s believed to be a “sure thing” that Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York will takeover Pelosi’s position.

The report adds, “And pretty much every Democrat in Congress and beyond is confident that Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York will be the next speaker of the House, if Democrats manage to hold on to their majority next year—or the minority leader if they lose it.”

Fox News’ Miranda Devine also argued that Pelosi’s days are clearly numbered.

Pelosi “used to point her angry finger at Donald Trump,” Devine writes, “but she leaves him in the dust when it comes to busting norms, dividing Congress and causing mayhem.”

Pelosi is accused of causing “hyper-partisanship” in Washington as House speaker. She is accused of abusing her power in ways that once were unthinkable.

Even worse, Pelosi shares her own culpability in the events of Jan. 6.

Devine writes, “Most obviously, what was her [Pelosi’s] reason for leaving the Capitol Police outnumbered and unprotected?” Congressman Jim Banks of Indiana said, “Nancy Pelosi is not interested in an investigation. She’s only interested in a narrative.”

Bank continued, “Once you go up to the top of the flagpole of who is in charge of the Capitol Police … Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House, has more control and authority and responsibility over the leadership of the Capitol Police than anyone else in the United States Capitol.”

“So, she doesn’t want us to ask these questions because at the end of the day, she is ultimately responsible for the breakdown of security at the Capitol that happened on January 6th,” he concluded.

Pelosi abuses her power in ways that once were unthinkable. Her speakership has been the antithesis of Lincoln’s entreaty to “the better angels of our nature.” Everyone in Congress — and, by extension, the nation — has been sullied by the spite and vitriol she has injected into the political sphere. There is no grace or Christian charity, just the barren wasteland of the zero-sum game, power for power’s sake.

It’s made all the worse by her increasingly frantic claims to be a “devout Catholic.”

The fact that all this venom is packaged in the shape of a small, elderly, expensively shod woman has bestowed upon her an element of deference her actions do not deserve. But last week there were a couple of signs that she’s finally worn out her welcome.

More from Becker News:

“Democratic members of Congress won’t talk about any of this publicly, as if Pelosi might suddenly appear and pull their hearts from their chests,” the Atlantic remarks. “Jeffries, carefully, left it at telling me that growing up in a Black church taught him to respect and value his elders. But none of the two dozen Democratic members of Congress and party insiders I spoke with privately could present a serious alternative to Jeffries. He’d have the support of the Congressional Black Caucus, which is stacked with influential members. He’s popular with his colleagues, even those who grumble that he was too meek to challenge Pelosi earlier.”

Speaker Pelosi beat back leadership challenges in 2016, and in 2018. In 2019, several Democrats voted for someone other than Pelosi to be Speaker. But she survived. In 2020, she held onto the gavel, despite heavy losses in the 2020 elections and grumblings from supposedly more vocal radicals in the “Squad.”

The Atlantic’s hint that Speaker Pelosi may step down after the midterm elections may be a yearn for a radical youth movement. But if it’s one thing her opponents have done with the ruthlessly cunning Pelosi, it’s been to underestimate her at every turn. They just might have to pry the gavel out of her clutching hands.
