Spotify CEO Says Whether He’ll Ban Kanye West’s Music Amid Mounting Pressure

Spotify will not remove Kanye West’s music. Corporate leaders and news media outlets have pressured Spotify to remove West’s music.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said Kanye West’s recent antisemitic comments were “just awful.”

His music will not be removed because his antisemitic comments were not made in his music.

Ek said, “It’s really just his music, and his music doesn’t violate our policy.”

Ek continued, “It’s up to his label if they want to take action or not.”

Universal Music’s Def Jam label, which owns the copyright to West’s music, has not been asked to sever its business deals with West.

Many companies, such as Adidas and Hollywood’s mega-talent agency CAA, have ended their relationships with West.

Vogue magazine and the fashion house Balenciaga have joined in and have ended their business dealings with West.
