A recent survey by the Economist/YouGov found that only 10% of Republicans would be “enthusiastic” about former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as the GOP nominee for president, while 61% would be enthusiastic about former President Donald Trump.
The majority of Republicans expressed satisfaction with Trump as the nominee.
This comes as more Republicans call for Haley to drop out of the race and unite behind Trump, who has emerged as a strong contender.
“The race is already over,” Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said.
“And politically speaking and figuratively speaking, they are dead people walking. It is time for this Republican Party to focus only on one person, and that is eliminating Joe Biden by electing Donald Trump,” he added.
“It is time for the party to unify,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn said.
“People ought to get out [of the race]. The party needs to unify. We need to move on and focus on Donald Trump beating Joe Biden and Donald Trump being the 47th president of the United States,” she said.
Despite this, Haley has indicated her intention to continue her campaign.
