NRA Drops the Hammer on Cuomo, Files Massive Lawsuit After He Uses COVID to Close Gun Stores

According to the Daily Caller, after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s classification of gun stores as non-essential business caused them to close their doors during the pandemic, preventing citizens from purchasing a device to protect their homes, the National Rifle Association has filed a lawsuit against the state of New York.

The NRA has touted the record number of background requests filed for the purchase of guns during the coronavirus pandemic. This has created problems in smaller municipal offices with limited staff remaining to handle the influx of paperwork, leading to sales to be delayed weeks.

The NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre tweeted, “NEWS: NRA Sues NY, Seeks Gun Stores to be Designated ‘Essential'”. He continued “‘This is clearly another assault by Gov. Cuomo on the NRA, on the rights of New Yorkers to defend themselves and their families, and on our 2A freedoms. NRA will continue to fight all such attacks.’ –Wayne LaPierre”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the NRA have a well-documented contentious relationship. Gov. Cuomo has called the NRA an “extremist organization” and has called for all companies in New York, particularly banks and insurance companies, to “consider their reputations and responsibility to the public” when it comes to being associated with the advocacy group.

The NRA has pushed out commercials highlighting the juxtaposition of the government releasing inmates from prison while closing gun stores during the coronavirus pandemic shuts down cities and states across the U.S..

Although President Trump’s administration has classified gun stores as “designated infrastructure”, California and New York’s governors have taken the stance that due to public safety concerns, they believe they are justified in limiting their citizens’ access to firearms.
