The media asked the three women who won weightlifting medals about competing against transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard.
Hubbard, who competed in the super heavyweight category, was unable to win against the female competitors despite going through male puberty and transitioning only eight years prior at age 35.
A reporter asked, “It was a historic night here with Laurel Hubbard competing as the first openly transgender in an individual event and I was wondering, you know, what you felt about that and what you felt that took place in your sport.”
Sarah Robles of the United States, who won Bronze, gave a curt response: “No, thank you.”
Then Emily Campbell of Great Britain, who won the silver medal, also said to reporters, “No, thank you.”
Lastly, gold medalist Li Wenwen of China responded to reporters, “I have nothing to say. I just respect the rules.”
While the reporters suggested Hubbard’s presence was “historic,” the Olympic winners clearly had nothing to say on the issue.
As the old saying goes, if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.

“The media are going for Olympic gold in the truth slalom, skilfully swerving around uncomfortable facts and deftly dodging their duties to their audiences.”
