The NFL undoubtedly looked to push past years on the controversy surrounding National Anthem kneeling and other non-football related issues with the start of this new season.
Entering week 5 of their season and they were without a hiccup — a good effort to reel back a fleeting fan base — but all good things must come to an end.
The Western Journal reports New Orleans Saints linebacker and team captain Demario Davis took to Instagram to complain that he was fined thousands of dollars for wearing a headband with the phrase “Man of God” on it during a game two weeks ago.
“So, I got fined $7K for my headband. Should I continue to wear it, or nah?” Davis wrote in a post.
The Western Journal reports Davis is outspoken about his Christian faith and how it has helped him overcome personal and professional struggles.

The NFL’s rule against players wearing “personal messages” during games has once again reared its ugly head, leading to a seemingly unnecessary fine.
It’s not clear whether the NFL would consider Davis to have committed another violation if he wore the headband again.
The minimum fine for a second offense would be $14,037, according to NOLA.com.
According to the Western Journal, Davis is not the first player to be fined over the “personal messages” rule:
Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward was fined over $25,000 for a series of messages on his eye black that were meant to honor his late father.
A year later, another Steelers player, running back DeAngelo Williams, was fined nearly $6,000 for the “Find the Cure” message on his eye black.
Williams has lost his mother and four aunts to breast cancer.
In the game which Davis was fined, the New Orleans Saints beat the Seattle Seahawks 33 to 27. The Saints are 3-1 heading into their divisional match-up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
