Dick’s Sporting Goods Reveals They Turned $5 Million Worth Of Guns Into Scrap Metal

Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack revealed in his new book that this company destroyed more than $5 million worth of assault rifles and other guns amid an anti-gun campaign.

USA Today reports Stack elaborated on the campaign during an interview with “CBS News Sunday” where he said he would rather see the weapons destroyed than potentially on the streets.

“I said, ‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, then we need to destroy them,'” Stack said to the network.

Stack admitted his company’s anti-gun campaign has resulted in a loss of more than “a quarter of a billion [dollars].”

“As of right now, 100 Dick’s stores no longer sell guns of any kind. Stack is thinking about expanding that policy so that no Dick’s store sells a gun,” Breitbart News reports.

USA Today adds:

In his book, “It’s How We Play the Game: Build a Business. Take a Stand. Make a Difference,” which goes on sale Tuesday, Stack wrote that rather than returning the firearms banned by the company to manufacturers, the chain “sawed $5 million worth of rifles into scrap.”

Breitbart News reports Stack’s decision to destroy the weapons was made after it was learned the person responsible for carrying out a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida purchased one of his weapons at a Dick’s Sporting Goods store:

On April 17, 2018, Breitbart News reported that Dick’s was destroying its “assault-style rifle” inventory, rather than returning the firearms to their manufacturers. Fox News quoted a spokesperson from Dick’s saying, “We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories that are no longer for sale as a result of our February 28th policy change. We are destroying the firearms in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.”

The National Rifle Association shared the Breitbart News article in a tweet on Monday, where they wrote: “Dick’s Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack told CBS News that his company destroyed $5 million worth of ‘assault-style rifles’ to keep them out of private hands.”
