The cast of “Saturday Night Live” took aim at some of leaders of the Democratic Party during the show’s opening sketch this week, according to BizPacReview.com.
The cold open also included a joke that Rep. Ilhan Omar, the progressive Democrat from Minnesota was “designed in a lab to give Tucker Carlson a heart attack.”
After four years of mocking former President Trump, the cast now is making fun of the problems that the Democrats are facing within their own party. Recently, it has not been Republicans as much as it has been internal conflict that is derailing the agenda of the Democrats.
Moderate Democrats, Sen. Sinema, who was chased into the bathroom by immigration activists, and Sen. Manchin who had protestors show up at his yacht over a healthcare bill, both were represented in the skit. The group was joined by an actress playing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to mock the trouble that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was having trying to get bills passed.
James Austin Johnson, while playing Biden opened with a joke apart his summer not being “Cuomo bad”, a reference to the sudden downfall of the former governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo after several accusations of sexual harassment.
“Biden” followed up by saying that his summer was also not “Afghanistan good”, mocking the messy withdrawal to end a twenty year war.
“Everyone keeps razzing me about that drone strike. But on the bright side, I went the entire summer without falling down the stairs once.” joked the fake Biden at the podium.
The actress playing AOC referenced her polarizing attendance at the Met Gala last month. The Democratic-Socialist and her boyfriend enjoyed tickets that were priced up to $35,000 and sat at tables that started at $200,000, all while wearing a dress that said “Tax the Rich”.
“I wore a dress that said ‘Tax the Rich,’ and then spent the whole night partying with the rich. Oops.” said the fake AOC.
Conservative critics have welcomed the change of focus over to the Democrats, which some believe have been ignored due to the attention the show’s cast gave to mocking former President Trump.
